Integrative Health Coaching

Have you had the experience where you know you need to change a part of your daily routine and yet are unable do so? Perhaps your Doctor has suggested some lifestyle changes to improve your health that have been almost impossible to implement or sustain. You are not alone! Changing a behavior pattern that has developed over time is challenging indeed.  My name is Stephanie Covall, MA PhD NBC-HWC and I am a Duke Certified Integrative Health Coach and Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. As an Integrative Health Coach my expertise is in partnering with you to create enduring behavior changes so you can live your life with your optimal health.

Integrative Health Coaching combines with my graduate studies, research and clinical experience with brain and behavioral relationships, and culminates in my unique, deeply informed ability to help my clients change even long-standing behaviors to “realize better health.” Furthermore, great news for all…there is no testing or blood work or expensive custom compound medicines; and at the end of each session, the client walks away with 1 or 2 immediately actionable steps to improve their health. This process not only feels positive but produces real sustainable change!

What is Coaching?

What is coaching?

The coaching relationship is unique, as the client and coach work in a partnership. As a coach, I partner with my client by listening, asking questions, guiding and supporting throughout our time together and am accessible to my clients by phone or email between sessions. The coach’s inquiry, guidance, and support help the client realize their own optimal and unique health vision. It is through the client’s own vision and values that actionable goals are set. Together we identify ways the client can feel empowered to take charge, make the behavioral changes that they choose, and create work arounds for any barriers to change that are encountered. Realizing Better Health is to be celebrated and who would not want that?

Who is a good coaching client?

I work with adults who find themselves in a period of change in some aspect of their life. They may have a change or new concern in their physical health, like clients with cardiac risk factors who may have difficulty making the health regime changes work with their already busy lives. Other clients feel like they are not living their best lives; there is an aspect of their life that is upsetting or unsettling to them in a way that is impacting their overall health. My clients often say they feel “stuck” in some way or are overwhelmed by circumstances.

What is IHC?

Integrative Health Coaching (IHC) empowers you to make lasting health behavior changes that are the cornerstones of lifelong well-being. It bridges the gap between medical recommendations and your abilities to successfully implement those recommendations into your complex life. Integrative Health (IH) Coaching is a client-centered, relational approach to working with individuals collaboratively to address the health and wellbeing of the whole person. It acknowledges the interdependent roles of mind, body and spirit, and the innate healing capacity within each person, with an emphasis on self-care. An integrative health coach forms a partnership with individuals or groups to empower and support them in achieving their personal goals related to optimal health and wellness.

Integrative health coaches work with the whole person, take time to listen to your concerns, and ask powerful questions to help motivate you to make changes. I utilize the Duke Integrative Medicine Wheel of Health to facilitate inquiry and personal discovery. Coaching helps facilitate behavior change in a structured, supportive partnership between you and your coach. We work together to  help you to identify obstacles to change and create strategies for forward movement. As a IHC I can  provide additional resources for making healthy behavior changes. Sessions can take place over the telephone, online, or in person.

During the coaching session, we will work together to articulate…

What is most important to you in life and what you want your health and wellbeing for.
The core areas that affect your health and wellbeing – how you would rate them currently and which areas need more attention than others.
Your goal to improve your health and wellbeing.
Action steps to achieve this goal.

Additionally, we will discuss what may support you in completing your action steps, establish timelines, accountability strategies, and anticipate possible challenges.

Coaching works with the whole person – addressing all core areas that influence your health and wellbeing. You are in charge of your health and wellbeing – coaches ask powerful questions and facilitate the process to maximize your potential for success. You and your coach partner to identify and articulate your goals and the actions to achieve them. Coaches have wealth of knowledge in lifestyle and integrative approaches for optimal health and wellbeing.
